Start of the Day
You’ll be welcomed with an orientation by our team, where you’ll learn about the history and mission of Edgar’s Mission. We’ll introduce you to our rescued residents, including pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, and many more, each with their own remarkable stories of resilience. You’ll gain insight into how Edgar’s Mission came to be and why ethical animal care is at the heart of everything we do.

Hands-On Activities
After orientation, you’ll be guided into the day’s tasks.

The specific duties will vary based on seasonal needs and the sanctuary’s daily priorities. Here’s what you can typically expect:

Feeding and Hydrating: You’ll help prepare and distribute food to the animals, making sure each resident has their nutritional needs met.
Enclosure Cleaning: Ensuring animals have clean, comfortable spaces is essential, so you’ll assist with mucking out stalls, changing bedding, and tidying enclosures.
Grooming: Some animals, such as the cows and goats, may need a bit of brushing and attention to stay healthy and comfortable.
General Upkeep: This can include checking and fixing fences, sweeping paths, and tidying common areas.
Each task directly contributes to the sanctuary’s operations and the well-being of our animals.

Learning and Connecting
Throughout the day, our team will be on hand to guide you and share insights into animal behavior, ethical treatment practices, and the challenges of running a sanctuary. You’ll gain a firsthand understanding of the hard work and dedication required to care for farm animals, and perhaps even develop special connections with a few residents along the way.

End of Day
As the day wraps up, you’ll leave with a strong sense of accomplishment, knowing you’ve contributed directly to the care and happiness of the animals. This is more than just a volunteer experience; it’s an opportunity to step into the world of animal sanctuary work, make a difference, and connect with the animals and environment in a meaningful way.
