Why This Experience Matters?

Koalas in the You Yangs are critically endangered, with fewer than 100 wild individuals remaining. Their survival depends on two key actions:

• Restoring Habitat: Planting trees is vital to achieving the goal of 300,000 trees by 2030, ensuring koalas have secure and thriving environments.
• Protecting Existing Habitat: Removing invasive weeds from the You Yangs is essential to preserving ecosystems that support koalas and other native wildlife.

This conservation experience allows participants to make a real impact on the future of koalas in the region.

Iterinary:

• 9:30 am – Gather at a public meeting point in Little River to meet the team and prepare for the day. A convoy will travel to the You Yangs.
• 10:00 am – Arrive at the You Yangs for a brief introduction to the park and a demonstration on removing invasive weeds. Participants will begin working to restore the habitat.
• 11:30 am – Take a break for morning tea and reflect on the initial progress.
• 12:00 pm – Continue weeding efforts, working to clear more ground and protect native vegetation.
• 12:30 pm – Conclude the session with a lunch break. During lunch, a koala expert will share insights about the local koalas, their life cycles, and the impact of conservation efforts.
• 1:30 pm – Participate in a guided wildlife walk through the You Yangs. Explore the flora and fauna of the area and gain a deeper understanding of the ecosystems supported by the conservation work.
• 2:30 pm – Depart the You Yangs, leaving behind a positive and lasting contribution to koala conservation.
